The "melting pot" metaphor implies both an intermarriage of ethnicities as well as melting of cultures. Some of the ideals of the American melting pot include sharing of ideas to create a unified culture. Overall there is cultural diversity. These ideals still remain up to this day.
Racial diversity is very much present in the United States and biracial intermarriages are more common.
