Religious order that strengthened the Catholic Church
and slowed the spread of Protestantism was the Jesuit order. The Jesuit order
was formed in XVI century, Spain, by Ignatius de Loyola. They have played an
important role in the Counter-Reformation with their educational, missionary,
and charitable works all over Europe. They succeeded in converting many people around
the world to Catholicism.
