When you hold a mug of hot cocoa, you feel a change in temperature. How does the skin detect this change?

Skin is full of nerves that react to changes in temperature. The nerve endings in the skin detect the change in temperature and send the information to the brain. The brain then responds by making the hands feel warmth.
