What role did maize (corn) play in shaping Native American societies?

Maize was important to Native American societies because it was easily stored for later use in the winter and t could be ground up to make flour. Native Americans ate corn with practically every meal since it was so available to them. They used the husks to create toys for children, sleeping masks, and baskets.
