Montaigne believed that the "standard of truth" of his own country is God. He believed that human beings are always changing and that we could not have a permanent standard of what is true. The only quality that God has that we don't is His permanence.

Montaigne believes the "standard of truth" in his own country is God. He thinks that people are always changing. With that being said he states there can be no "standard of truth" because things around are always changing. He also believes the major characteristic God has and we don't is he is always going to be the same and be right.
