If y varies directly as x and y = 64 when x = 16, what is the value of y when x = 12 ?

Answer:  Y=48

Y is 4 times more than x. If x=12, y=48. Notice in the first part of the question, if you divide 64 by 4, you get 16. This means in order to get your answer, you must mulitiply x by 4 to get y. 12x4=48.
