You are told x = 8y -4

Replace x in the second equation with 8y-4:

8y-4 + 8y = 6

Combine like terms:

16y-4 = 6

Add 4 to both sides:

16y = 10

Divide both sides by 16:

Y = 10/16

Simplify:

Y = 5/8

Now replace y with 5/8 do find x:

X = 8(5/8) -4 = 5-4 = 1

X = 1, y = 5/8

(1,5/8)
