In Deon's candy bag, the ratio of red candy to blue candy is 4 to 3. He
has 24 red candies. How many total candies are in Deon's candy bag?

You have gone from 4:3 to 24:x

To get from 4 to 24 you multiply by 6.

You must do the same to the 3.

This means your final ratio is 24:18

Then add these figures together as they are now accurate.

24 + 18 = 42, so there are 42 candies in total.
