Enlightenment ideas were an extension of Scientific Revolution. Traditional beliefs were discarded and reasoning was used to explain the world, rather. Some of the most famous enlightenment thinkers were Thomas Hobbes (greedy, selfish and cruel), John Locke (Life, Liberty, property) , Voltaire (freedom of speech), Baron de Montesquieu (Judical, legislative, executive) and Jean Jacques Rousseau (social contract).
