slope intercept form is [tex] y = mx+b [/tex]

where [tex] m [/tex] is the slope
and [tex] b [/tex] is the y-intercept

they give us that the slope is 2
so our [tex] m = 2 [/tex]

then to find [tex] b [/tex] , we temporarily plug in the point they gave us for x and y

so  [tex] 3 = 2(1) + b [/tex]
and solve for [tex] b[/tex]
3 = 2 + b
1 = b
so our [tex] b = 1 [/tex]

put this together and we get
[tex] y = 2x + 1 [/tex] as our answer
