Let l and w be the length and width of the rectangle.

We are given l=3w.

The perimeter of a rectangle is 2(l+w).

Since l=3w, the formula becomes 2(3w+w)=8w

The perimeter is 72, so we have

[tex]8w=72 \iff w = \dfrac{72}{8}=9[/tex]

And thus l=3*9=27
