Probability is defined as number of favorable outcomes divided by total number of events.

probability = [tex]\frac{number of favorable outcomes}{total number of events}[/tex]

Now as we have been given,

total number of cats= 2

total number of dogs = 4

so total number of animals (events) = 6

we have been asked the probability that 2 cats can be seen

so probability = [tex]\frac{2}{6}[/tex] = [tex]\frac{1}{3}[/tex]

Hence the answer is option A.
