Because this triangle is isosceles, its legs are equal, so we can write using Pythagorean theorem

a² +a² = 10²
2a²= 10²
a² = 10²/2

√(10²)/√2 =10/√2 = 10√2/(√2√2)= 10√2/2 =5√2

a= 5√2 (inch)
