Hello!
You can only add values that have the same terms
4k^4 + 5k^4 = 9k^4
-3k + k = -2k
-8 + 2 = -6
The answer is 9k^4 - 2k - 6
Hope this helps!

(4k^4 + 2 - 3k) + (5k^4 + k - 8)
=
4k^4 + 2 - 3k + 5k^4 + k - 8
= 9
k^4 -2k -6
The simplest form is 9k^4 -2k -6
