Nurture - the environment where you were born and raised has a great effect on how you communicate with others. For example, Asian culture in general, perceives hierarchy as vital in society. This is why Asians are generally indirect in their speech, hardly contradicts and very respectful to elders and people higher than them in society (parents, teachers, bosses).
